Notes

Note
Sarah's son Manus ‎(Mandy)‎ died suddenly on 11/4/1943. Sarah was 88 at the time and living with her daughter, Nelly Kelly's, family in Claggan, Carrigart ‎(about 2 miles from Drumdutton)‎ and it was decided not to tell her about Mandy's death. Her grand-daughter May Lavin remembers going to visit her with her siblings and being told ‎(warned!)‎ not to mention Mandy's death. When Sarah started asking awkward questions they were ushered from the room.

May also remembers her grandmother giving herself and her siblings sweets. She held out a handful and very deliberately picked out the smallest one to give May.

A letter from Sarah to her daughter-in-law's sister, Susan Campbell ‎(neĆ© Williams)‎, in 1935 still survives. A copy is available on the DennisonZone website.

Note
Sarah had a younger sister who died when 16-18 due to a chill contracted when she didn't dry her hair properly after washing it,

She corresponded is later life with a May Behan who may have been a relative.

She had no Irish - she was not able to help her grandchildren with their Irish lessons. Her grand-daughter Ellen remembers that she was using one of two double-bedrooms upstairs in Drumdutton while Ellen was going to school ‎(circa 1930-43 (Source: Ellen Gallagher)‎
